Serious issues facing our nation, our world

What am I going to wear?!?
Really, what are the young people wearing these days? And how do I not come across as a poseur?
From my brief campus tour, the most fashionable accessory seems to be 0% body fat, at least if the Abercrombie model who called himself a tour guide is any indication.
I will have to content myself with my supercool new backpack. Timbuk2, for those of you who want to keep up.

Love love love the bag. I was very envious when I saw it in person - so many cute little pouches.

Could we please see some photos of you wearing some possible first-day outfits so we could all vote on them? I'll be glad to come over and take the photos, if need be.

Eric M has a superb plan. I love the idea of choosing outfits through democracy. Are we going with a simple majority, or a plurality?

Have you committed to the shoes?

The Timbuk2 is very very good. Have you moved into it yet? It takes a while to know where everything belongs. You'll look cooler if you don't have to dump it upside down on the floor to find your stuff.

I officially have bag envy. Which pocket holds the portable knitting project? I'd suggest a nice 2x2 rib sock project in, of course, Hamline's school colors.

Regarding your first-day attire: we SO need to vote on this! Why should you have to cloud your mind with this life-altering decision as well? Might I recommend red - it implies confidence, which will get you in with all the cool kids at school. And BTW, Eric needs to take your picture on the front stoop wearing your pack that first morning...

Time for the 1988 Homecoming King to kick in a comment.

It's not about the bag, it's about the laptop in the bag. Tell me you aren't sporting a Windoze laptop in that ultra-cool bag.

Darn my (1988) Eddie Bauer backpack. Why won't it just split a zipper or tear a hole so I can upgrade to one like yours?

I, too, would like to vote on the opening day outfit. I'm thinking it needs to be something new, just for the "new clothes smell." Of course you then run the risk of "trying too hard."

The key to not sticking out may be the shoes. Yours are probably too nice. I'm not saying to wear flip flops, but your classmates will have a little scruff on theirs.

The Moe has a good point, Sweetie-Pie. Trust me, Gordon, we've tried bringing him to the Mac side. (Even Low-Ass has a new MacBook!) Although I think he's somewhat enlightened by Eric M.'s iPhone, it's going to take more. Intervention? There will definitely be a photo, with backpack and back-to-school outfit, on the stairs. And I'll wait with him at the bus stop.

I was going to suggest this nice bullet-proof model ...

I'd be happy to participate in a Windoze-to-Mac intervention.

I think we can all agree, he has a Mac brain, and is probably disoriented much of the time by trying to pretend to be a Windozian.

Here I am, on his third blog entry, addressing the commenters and referring to him in third person, rather than replying to his postings.

Huh.

I'm on a Powerbook, myself. Count me in for the intervention.
