Excuse me, sir

At 9:08am, fifteen of my fellow students and I sat in our learning-centric circle waiting for class to begin. In walked a young woman holding a small, official-looking piece of paper. As she drew closer, I could see that, sure enough, her stubby little hand was clutching a drop-slip: no German I for Miss Redhead. With a quick scan of the room, Miss R made up her mind, walked up to me, and said, "Excuse me, sir, are you the teacher?"

"No," I replied. "I'm just old."

Ah, the first day of school. There's always a memorable moment...

OK, I thought I could do something with the lyrics from "To Sir, With Love" by LuLu, from 1967, and then you could resume your youthful mien. But the official words are so painfully atrocious, I'm going to fall back on "it's the thought that counts."

Ich hoffe, daß Donnerstag besser geht.

J'espère que le jeudi va mieux.

Espero que va mañana mejor.

I think you forgot the "comma bitch" after your response. "I'm just old, bitch." That's what the sassy gay movie version of you would have said. :)

I'm sure you had such an air of confidence, poise, and worldly knowledge about you that she presumed you to be the disseminator of wisdom rather than a co-recipient. Or, you could just run with the "O" word...
