We've had a bit of strange day: I'm currently sitting in the surgical waiting lounge at U of M/Fairview. Eric is in recovery, after just having his appendix removed! It all started at 3am; at 3pm we were at the emergency room, and he went into surgery at 6pm. The surgeon came out and talked to me and Eric's parents at about 7:30; everything went very well, and his appendix hadn't burst. I'm looking forward to seeing Eric in about an hour.
If all goes well, I'll be taking him home sometime tomorrow afternoon. More later.

I just settled in to a pleasant evening of half listening to the (high school) football game while fiddling around online (mostly ordering things like black fedoras for our mini-pit band and seriously big, white sunglasses for Agent 99 to use as a phone) with a smelly-sweet glass of port by my side (I know it's not popular, but my neighbor Marilyn, who's in her 80's, keeps a jug on hand for afternoon relaxation and I always enjoy visiting her because of it). I thought, "I haven't checked in on Scott, a person born to be an English major, for a few days. Perhaps I'll start there..."

I thought bunions were the problem.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Eric. He's lucky to have you for a nursemaid, Scott. Will there be a little bell for him to ring if he needs more frozen custard or a smelly-sweet glass of Port?

I'm trying to consider the possibility that eric m is right, and this blog (and everything else in the world) isn't All About Me.
However, His Rock is home and recovering nicely, I understand, so I guess once again it's Me Time. Or at least, My Opinions.
For a sharp post-op look, you just can't beat the classic appendectomy incision. I've always preferred it to the new-fangled scatter and umbilical edging of the laparoscopic approach.
A nice straight line, 3-5 cm long, (assuming the absence of peritonitis and intra-operative complications, of course) set at a rakish angle over McBurney's point - it's just a handsome thing. Gives some inguinal definition, says "I've been through some stuff" but not in a way that's disfiguring.

I hope you make good, steady post-op progress. I promise if you try to advance your activity too fast, I'll tell you really scary nursing stories about all the complications you could rack up.

Sorry to be entering my regards so late in the game, haven't read your blog lately Scott. I'm soo sorry!! I'm trying to catch up..appendix and then foot surgery?! I'm sure Scott is a stellar nurse, but I also know that he really hates all things "foot" related especially toe nails! Hang in there Scott. Sending lots of love to you both from NYC! Take care.
