I knew there would be a few requirements at Hamline that I'd have to force myself through. One of the requirements for LitCrit, as it's an English major gateway course (I know, it's not my major), was to participate in the Career Development Center's practice interview program. We had to prepare our resume, choose an internship or grad program that might hold our interest, and prepare for a mock interview with a real live professional for the interview. I dreaded this. But, dutiful student that I am, I played the game. Except that I asked the CDC to provide me an interviewer from the graduate school of liberal studies at Hamline, as it's a program I could actually see myself in.
Turns out, not so much hoop-jumping. I dutifully showed up, all dressed up, and proceeded to have a great conversation with a prof from the program. Also an ordained Presbyterian minister, she teaches a course on work and vocation. We had a far-ranging and stimulating conversation, and I left feeling like not only like she had been impressed by me, but that I had actually clarified my thinking and goals for What Comes Next.
Turning lemons into ploughshares, I am.
