When I was in college, I really hated three hour night classes. I only had a couple as an undergrad, but in grad school, ALL my classes were three hour seminars.
I don't care how good the course might be--after 90 minutes, I'm just not listening anymore.
Try sitting through three hours of medieval German poetry sometime. I dare you.
You seem to be suffering under the impression that simply being in a class requires you to Be In The Class. There are so many other possibilities!
Personally, I always looked upon class time as an excellent opportunity to examine, and rid myself of, split ends. For the more literarily inclined, I have no doubt that many of America's greatest novels were begun in three-hour night classes. The options are only as limited as your imagination!
