Color me happy

For as many years as I can remember, I've been the go-to guy when it comes to color: what colors go with what, what color should we paint this room, what color would you call that, etc. It's a gift. Once in a while, someone will argue with me, insisting that something obviously grey is green. And I will let them think their opinion counts a little bit, but inside I will be saying, "you are a fucking idiot." So when Eric M told me about this online color hue test, I was a bit apprehensive. But the test combines three of my favorite things: color, judging, and being the best.

I just took the test and as soon as I started, I felt as though the baby Jesus was guiding my hand as I moved the tiles into the correct order. A perfect score is zero, which is what I got. Which rhymes with hero. Take the test, and post your score in the comments; I'd also be curious to know if your score reflects how you perceive your relationship with color. And Eric M adds that he'd like it if you'd post your score in limerick form. I leave that to your discretion.

It's not a Limerick, but here's my score:

I know what would be fun. Let's have everybody post their Miller Analogies Test scores.

I got a 29, which is pretty much in line with my perceptions of my color abilities. Mr. Graphic Designer husband got 39, so thank you for that gloating opportunity. :-)

Also, for your words to embrace list: ensorcell, sussuration, and limpid.

I got a zero! On the first try! I shall refrain from writing a limerick about it; you're welcome.

OK. I got a 24. There was a graph that came up after the test (which the zeroes didn't get to see) showing where the wrong ones landed. Mine were all in one particular green area, where I knew I had some wrong answers, but couldn't fix them.

Does anyone want to know what I got on the MAT? The first time or the second time? We could talk about either score.

I got a zero. After I figured out how the test works, it seemed like it would be hard to get very many wrong, since the colors basically blink and flash on the screen as long as they're in the wrong order. Or was that just me?

I've always been fairly sensitive to hues and undertones. Once in college, a friend was wearing a pink sweater (remember, this was the '80s), and everyone was raving about how great it looked on him and how it made him look so tan and dark. I finally said, "Yes, it makes him look dark--dark GRAY!" I thought it gave his complexion a ghastly undertone, but everyone else just thought I was crazy. I'm going to go e-mail them all this test now!

Zero. Thanks for the link to the free fun!

Deb, I want to hear more about the MAT.

So, I can't believe I got a 13! I thought I would get something far highter. I would still want your opinion on choosing paint. Judy must try this - have her do it once before coctail hour and then after...and compare.

Even though I don't like to be wrong, I have learned to embrace my shortcomings. It especially helps to announce to my students at the beginning of the year that they can expect me to mess up once in a while, and that they'll just have to forgive me when it happens. Otherwise, they put me on this god-pedestal and their lives are crushed when I call Kafka a German writer, when he was actually from Prague (although, in my defense, he wrote in German).

So, I got a 19.

I forgot to mention that I did the test right before I had to leave for rehearsal, so I rearranged the squares really fast and didn't have time to check my answers.

I may be a tad bitter about my underperformance, but I am thankful to not be color blind. The apples in my neighbors trees are glowing in the evening sun. How much more rich is life with this amazing dimension added.
