Care to comment?

Stephanie's blog, Native Observation, is off to an enviable start: smart, funny, full-flavored and fortifying. But it's also very gracious. When you want to make a comment, Stephanie invites you to "Speak freely and with an open heart." And then she says it all fancy-dancy in French.

It occurs to me that perhaps I have not been as namaste-y in my invitation to comment to Going40. But I want you to know how much I value your input as well, so I extend the same invitation:

Drücken Sie sich frei—und mit aufgeschlossenem Herzen—aus!

(And yes, I had to have Sean help me with the German. My translation would have come out something like. Free hearts, give away today, speak up! Thanks, Sean.)

You made the fuzzy-brained, jet-lagged WG translate?!? Du ist ein Mean- und Cruelblogger. Gehaben.

Ja. Dat.

Awww. Là, tu me fais une belle fleur ! ("There, you make me a beautiful flower!", the French response to a lovely compliment or bit of flattery)

And thank YOU for your efforts to increase my early blog traffic, although I was thinking that a certain former OB-GYN Nurse Practioner that we know might have something to say about French Pap smears.

P.S. I guess I should confess that I asked Isabelle (whose post yesterday, in French, was ALSO about the strike and the fact that her kids couldn't go to school, complete with photo of police in riot gear!) how best to translate "Speak freely and with an open heart." I would have translated the idiom slightly differently, so I was surprised that she basically recommended a word-for-word. I didn't tell her the context of the sentence though (keeping the blog launch under wraps), so I'm curious to see if she still thinks it's right.

It's okay, meema, right now German is still easier for me than English.

Brain thingy not so good right now...
