- Get some green beans (more than you think you'll need) from your garden, your neighbor's garden, or, as a last resort, the farmer's market.
- Trim the beans, and toss them in a large bowl with olive oil, coarse salt, and cracked pepper. Be liberal with all.
- Put a double layer of foil on your grill; heat grill to medium heat. Using tongs, spread green beans over foil. Close lid.
- After 3 or 4 minutes, use the tongs to give the beans a bit of a stir. Continue cooking until about half the beans have some char.
- Eat these beans until gone, weeping with happiness. Repeat each night until the world's supply of green beans has been exhausted.

* If you live in an apartment in Paris with no access to a grill, you can also prepare them this way in the broiler of your stove. I suppose it could work in the broiler in other cities, as well, but I make no guarantees.
