Do this

  1. Get some green beans (more than you think you'll need) from your garden, your neighbor's garden, or, as a last resort, the farmer's market.
  2. Trim the beans, and toss them in a large bowl with olive oil, coarse salt, and cracked pepper. Be liberal with all.
  3. Put a double layer of foil on your grill; heat grill to medium heat. Using tongs, spread green beans over foil. Close lid.
  4. After 3 or 4 minutes, use the tongs to give the beans a bit of a stir. Continue cooking until about half the beans have some char.
  5. Eat these beans until gone, weeping with happiness. Repeat each night until the world's supply of green beans has been exhausted.

* If you live in an apartment in Paris with no access to a grill, you can also prepare them this way in the broiler of your stove. I suppose it could work in the broiler in other cities, as well, but I make no guarantees.
