I've been a bit preoccupied the last few days, reading Daniel Defoe's Moll Flanders. Moll is quite a gal: she married five times, gave birth to a dozen kids, entertained 14 lovers (cash only, please), and made a life for herself as a thief. In other words, I'm smitten. And composers, take note: this text would be a most perfect source for a new opera. Really.
Now it's on to Oliver Twist. Orphans rock!

As you read Oliver Twist imagine reading the whole book aloud to a six-year old. My dad read it to me every night for a year as my bedtime story.
It's not exactly Winnie the Pooh, but I loved it. Plus I became a master pick-pocket!
